Giving back is also central to their long-term vision, with plans to make charitable support for Anguillian families and communities an enduring part of the celebration.

For visitors, Light the Night offers another reason to experience Anguilla during the festive season. For Anguillians, it is an opportunity to celebrate the island's beauty, heritage and community spirit in an entirely new way.

Perhaps that is what makes the occasion so compelling. In a destination already celebrated for its natural splendour, the most memorable new attraction may be one that draws its inspiration from a tradition that has been there all along.

This Boxing Day, Anguilla is preparing to let its maritime heritage shine.

This Boxing Day, Anguilla is bringing together its breathtaking coastal beauty and proud maritime heritage for a Christmas celebration unlike any other on the island.

There is something about Christmas in the Caribbean that refuses to be ordinary. The warmth of the people, the music, the food and the unmistakable spirit of togetherness make the season a celebration in its own right. In Anguilla, where pristine beaches, turquoise waters and understated luxury have long captivated travellers, Christmas is about to take on an entirely new glow.

On 26 December 2026, the island will introduce Light the Night Anguilla, an illuminated boat parade and beachfront celebration with ambitions of becoming a cherished annual tradition.

As dusk settles over Sandy Ground, boats dressed in dazzling lights will set out across the water, their reflections shimmering against the Caribbean Sea. Onshore, spectators dressed in white will gather for an evening of music, food and festivities beneath the island's night sky. It promises to be a remarkable sight, but the inspiration runs deeper than the spectacle.

It promises to be a remarkable sight, but the inspiration runs deeper than the spectacle.

For Anguilla, the relationship with the sea is woven into the very fabric of island life. From generations of skilled boatbuilders and seafarers to the fiercely competitive boat races that remain a source of national pride, boating is more than a pastime. It is part of the island's identity.

Light the Night brings these two defining elements together: the extraordinary beauty of Anguilla and the enduring strength of its maritime culture.

The celebration will extend beyond the water, with Sandy Ground hosting a free beachfront festival welcoming residents and visitors alike. Families can enjoy the earlier festivities before the evening transitions into a more adult atmosphere later in the night.

Behind the initiative are Sutcliffe Hodge, Crispin Brooks and Wendell “Bonty” Herbert, whose vision extends beyond creating a memorable holiday event. With the endorsement of the Anguilla Tourist Board and the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association, the founders hope to build a tradition that celebrates the island while opening new opportunities for local businesses and tourism.
